The underreported military buildup in the area where the Western Pacific meets the Indian Ocean means that it will likely be a hinge point for global war and peace for the foreseeable future. With oil reserves of several billion barrels, an estimated nine hundred trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and several centuries' worth of competing territorial claims, the South China Sea in particular is a simmering pot of potential conflict. Over the last decade, the center of world power has been quietly shifting from Europe to Asia. ![]() 6/25/2023 0 Comments The giving tree poetry![]() ![]() ![]() The book’s somber themes made it a hard sell. The misuse of criteria as a singular noun irks him as badly as "nails on a chalkboard". Permissive on the subject of dangling modifiers, prepositions at the end of sentences, 'their' used as singular, Pinker has pet likes and hates about distinctions between similar-sounding words. Pinker's first chapter, with its feeble close readings of undistinguished textual excerpts, is a darling ripe for execution. "Murder your darlings," Arthur Quiller-Couch instructed Cambridge students in 1916.
